|
eith Womer
was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. He has studied organ
with Raymond Ocock of Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania,
and harpsichord with Will Volcker in Houston, Texas. In competition, Womer
has twice won the National Federation of Music Clubs Award and the Sigma
Alpha Iota Award. In 1974, he was chosen Young Organist of the Year by
Keyboard Arts, Inc. His many recitals include performances on such
historic instruments as the Walcker Organ in Methuen, Massachusetts, and
the organ in Atlantic City Convention Hall. He has appeared as soloist
with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra and as featured artist in the
Houston Harpsichord Society's annual Presentation Concert.
Mr. Womer's harpsichord was built by Peter Tkach of St. Louis, Missouri in 1981. It is modeled after a 1745 Flemish instrument by Joannes Daniel Dulcken, and has two manuals. On the bottom manual are 8' and 4' registers with a buff. On the upper manual is an 8' register with a nasale stop. The soundboard painting is done in the Flemish style by Andrea Tkach. The inscription, Sine Scientia Ars Nihil Est, translates literally as Without Knowledge, Art is Nothing or, with slight poetic license, as Without Knowledge, There is No Art. | |
