Shelby Lewisshelby LEWIS / baroque trumpet

A  native of the Nashville area, Shelby Lewis has had a long running interest in all things artistic. After earning performance degrees at Tennessee Tech University and the University of Notre Dame in the 1990’s, Shelby spent considerable time as a professional trumpeter in both the commercial and classical venues; playing in a wide array of ensembles including Mr. Jack Daniel’s Silver Cornet Band, the Lewis/Osborne Organ and Trumpet Duo, and the numerous orchestras and show bands. Following a calling in visual design and art, Shelby earned a design degree with highest honors from Louisiana State University in 2005 and took a break from full-time trumpeting for a stint in architecture and photography. His unceasing affection for music, especially early music, came to the fore once again in 2010 and he returned to LSU to study baroque (and modern) trumpet with Dr. Brian Shaw… while continuing his love for visuals by declaring a minor in photography (emphasis; photography for classical musicians). A recent participant in the American Bach Soloists’ Academy and Festival in San Francisco this past summer, Shelby is at the tip of what he hopes to be a long and enjoyable tenure in the early music community.
